Levy’s Clothier for Men and Women celebrates 155th anniversary
Levy’s Clothier for Men and Women will celebrate 155 years of business with an anniversary party Thursday, September 30, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. The celebration, in partnership with the Italian Trade Commission, will be an Italian themed event with fashions, food by Valentino’s Ristorante, Italian beverages, entertainment, and a silent auction.
Levy’s is the oldest family-owned retail store in America, opening its doors in Nashville in 1855 and still run by a descendant of the founder, Zadoc Levy. The store gained a reputation for offering cutting edge fashion from New York to its Southern clients, and continues the tradition today by searching worldwide for the finest fashions, both classic and contemporary.
Committed to supporting local organizations, Levy’s will donate 100% of proceeds from the silent auction to the Second Harvest Food Bank and the YWCA Weaver Domestic Violence Shelter.
“Our loyal customers are the reason why Levy’s has been in business this long, so it’s important that we celebrate this accomplishment with them,” said David W. Levy, President of Levy’s. “We’re proud to be such a big part of Nashville’s history, and it’s exciting to see the growth and change that has happened throughout the years. Not only is a party in order, but also a time to give back to our community. The Second Harvest Food Bank and YWCA are meaningful organizations to the Levy family.”
In addition to the Italian fashions, food, and wines during the anniversary party, representatives from Levy’s best Italian clothing lines will be in attendance. This will include an informal showing of Italian fashions of the latest designs from Armani Collezioni, Canali, Ermenegildo Zegna, Flavio Castellani and more.
“Our Italian fashions represent a large part of Levy’s identity,” said Ellen Levy, Men’s and Women’s buyer. “Our commitment to bringing the latest fashions from all over the world to Nashville continues, and Italian fashion is among the most progressive, pertinent today. We’re so excited to welcome the Italian representatives from the most prominent Italian lines in the industry to Nashville, and hope our customers will take the opportunity to mingle with some of the biggest names in fashion.”
Levy’s will host a Canali trunk show, September 30 and October 1, and Armani Collezioni trunk show September 30 and October 1.
For more information and an invitation to the anniversary party, contact Robin Rose 615-383-2800, or rrose@levysclothes.com.

Move Your Money: List of TN Banks
Move Your Money: Profile on GreenBank
Tennessee’s Most Convenient Bank
In today’s crazy world convenience means many things to many people. At GreenBank, it’s more than our 7 day a week extended hours banking. More than the convenience of free Internet Banking, Mobile Banking, Telephone Banking, or Internet Bill Pay.
Convenience is more than our great free products or even same day posting. Convenience is being there for you with Personal Banking Representatives eager to assist you and Loan Officers ready to help meet your needs.
At GreenBank, convenience is more than saving time, it’s an attitude, it’s customer service.
During the course of our Farmers Market Grocery Challenge we have found more ways to support local businesses. One change we made was closing our business account at the national chain bank and move to GreenBank.
GreenBank is a privately owned Tennessee bank that first opened in 1891. With the collapse and bailouts of so many larger, national banks, we decided it was time to go back to a local institution with a firm foundation! Our first impression at the Spring Hill location was the décor and friendly greeting. The facility itself looks like home with warm colors, cozy over sized sofas and plush leather chairs. Combine that with friendly down home hospitality, great customer service, cash incentives to open an account and NO FEE banking – we were sold! The process was quick, efficient and they have extended banking hours too, a huge perk for anyone not able to make “bankers hours”. I highly recommend GreenBank for these reasons and more.

Pink Sugar Bowl

You can find Deana and the Pink Sugar Bowl every Saturday at the Franklin Farmers Market. She’s an avid ‘buy local’ supporter and it shows! When she told me about the phenomenal service she receives at GreenBank, I just had to ask her to share it with you.
Did you know that a 10% shift in the way we spend our money (from national to local) can create upwards of 1000 new jobs? So what are you waiting for? It’s time to MOVE YOUR MONEY!!!
Gubernatorial Primary
By now, you likely know that Bill Haslam took the Republican nomination for TN governor. Mike McWherter ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination. So come November, those will be our 2 choices for governor.
We took an unofficial poll (RE: which candidate most supports local business) and here are the results:
50% Haslam
33% McWherter
8% Ramsey
8% Wamp
Comments we received:
Bill Haslam
He is a Tennessee business owner. He knows how important it is for us to buy local because he is Mayor of a city that depends on sales tax revenue.
Mike McWherter
He seems to want to focus on smaller businesses, which many local businesses are.
Are you happy with the outcome? Who do you want to be our next governor and why?

Vote to Buy Local!
It’s FINALLY time! Our grant application is LIVE on the Pepsi Refresh website! But we need YOUR help! This is basically a popularity contest. So it’s critical that we get as many votes as possible EVERY DAY in the month of September.
We have applied for a $50,000 grant to build a website that will connect consumers with local businesses. We worked with Rob Blackford at local biz Design(615) to conceptualize a website that will revolutionize the way Middle Tennesseans search for and connect with our local business community.
Bookmark this website ( http://refresheverything.com/tnbuylocal) and visit it every day to vote for our idea. Personally? I set an Outlook reminder to pop up to remind me to vote every day.
More importantly, PLEASE spread the word! Forward this email to your entire email list. Ask your friends and family to vote daily. Share the link on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn…you get the picture.
Think outside the BOXstore! When a community shifts only 10% of their spending from big box stores to local businesses, it can result in up to 1000 new jobs. Independent, local businesses create more jobs than any (inter)national business. Do we need more jobs in Middle Tenn? I think so…help us make that a reality!
We can’t do this without your help. THANK YOU!!!
When needs are met locally by locally owned enterprises, people have greater control over their lives, more money is recycled back into the community, jobs are more secure, economies are more stable, and there are the means and incentives to protect the environment and to build the relationships of mutual trust and responsibility that are the foundation of community.
TN Buy Local seeks to build a sustainable economy in Middle Tenn. Sustainable businesses strive toward a triple bottom line, balancing financial, social & environmental performance. They adopt practices to improve the quality of life of their employees, customers, communities and the environment.
